Search Marketing For Schools Google Launches Apps for Education 07/02/10
In what is a sign of the growing importance of search engine marketing in relation to the growing e-economy, it was only a matter of time before search marketing entered the schools curriculum in earnest.
Google has launched its Google Apps for Education in schools in US states and the feedback has already been impressive.
Search marketing continues to develop as a business medium as the increase in the amount of money being spent and being earned online expands at an astronomical rate.
With internet e-commerce and internet usage continuing to expand it’s obvious that children need to move beyond understanding how the internet works on a simple level in order to prepare for the workplace as well as higher education and research roles.
In all cases those who are doing well in their chosen fields are effective operators online and so children need to be kept up to speed.
Google, a company that is not known for lagging behind on such matters, is offering search engine marketing education – in particular, how to use Google Apps and other online tools and resources as part of its Google Apps for Education.
Google Apps for Education enables lesson plans to be shared plus online discussions of books and ideas.
Oregon is the first state to begin offering Google Apps for Education to public schools. Colorado and Iowa are also joining the Google Apps Education movement. Google Apps for Education will now be available to more than 3,000 schools across the two states.
Google Apps for Education offers unified email, chat, calendar, online docs, word processing, spreadsheets and other associated online features all in one place. With a sophisticated system for sharing with others for review or collaboration it makes Google Apps for Education an attractive resource for teachers.
Google Apps for Education also provides anti-spam/anti-virus protection and document recovery all included.
Google Apps for Education accounts can be accessed anywhere there is an internet connection, including via Smartphones.
Google says Google Apps for Education enables schools and districts to benefit from centralised resources such as deployment support and training materials, paving the way for an easy transition to other online training resources in their classrooms.
Colorado Governor Bill Ritter says: “By leveraging the internet, educators are able to bring new ways of learning to the classroom and connect with students in exciting and challenging ways.”
Saving money is another reason schools are moving to Apps and providing a bigger focus on Google and the internet.
Educators and students from JeffCo Public Schools have been praising the anytime, anywhere availability of Google Apps for Education.
Google are now also introducing training solutions for schools to start making the most of Google Apps as well as Google Message Security.
It is only the latest in a trend for search engine marketing and Google training, everything from SEO copywriting to Google Analytics and Search Engine Optimisation is available in courses within the private business training industry, including in the UK.
In the UK it is also already standard to introduce computers to pre-school and primary children in a gentle way.
UK children will also be taught to read using internet search engines such as Google and Yahoo in the first few years of school, it was announced in 2009.
Announcing a growth in search marketing and Google training for UK schools the review by Sir Jim Rose, former head of inspections at Ofsted, also recommended the use of Google Earth in geography lessons and said that pupils in English primary schools should learn to write with keyboards, use spellcheckers and insert internet hyperlinks into text before their 11th birthday.
