Hi Alan, we have pointed the exact match domain to another website, so far the 301 hasn’t been picked up by G. Still waiting to see if it causes the new domain to drop..will keep you posted with any updates. Intend on leaving this 301 on for about another 4 weeks.

Interesting findings, any update on the results to the homepage? I have done this many time in the past with no problems, interested to see what happens to your site.
